Fifty University of Iowa student-athletes were named to the 2014 Big Ten Fall Academic All-Conference team released this week.

The list of 50 honored athletes includes 15 student-athletes from football, nine from women’s soccer, seven each from volleyball and women’s cross country and six from men’s cross country and field hockey.

The six men’s cross country athletes honored are the most from the program since 2008 while the seven women’s cross country honorees are the most since 2011.

Of the 977 athletes to achieve Academic All-Conference honors in the fall, 26 have maintained a perfect GPA with five of those athletes coming from the University of Iowa.

Lisa Gordon (cross country), Jocelyn Todd (cross country), Samantha Zishka (cross country), Sarah Mazur (women’s soccer), and Jessy Silfer (field hockey) all boast unblemished GPAs.

Academic All-Big Ten selections must be letterwinners and be in at least their second academic year at the institution. They must also carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better.
