The University of Iowa volleyball team recorded its first three-set victory in Big Ten action since 2012, beating Maryland 2-0 Friday in College Park, Md. The Hawkeyes won 25-21, 25-17, 25-20.

Iowa is 10-12 overall and 2-9 in the Big Ten, while Maryland is 9-13 and 2-9.

“It was a great 3-0 road win for us in Big Ten play,” Iowa coach Bond Shymansky said. “It’s really tough to accomplish and our group worked really hard for it. We were gritty and gutty tonight. We had a lot of fight, a lot of courage, and we never relented in what we were doing offensively or defensively. I liked the leadership we got from a lot of different people tonight.”

Taylin Alm matched her career-high with nine kills for Iowa, while Jess Janota and Julianne Blomberg contributed seven kills apiece. Blomberg’s seven kills matches her career-high for the second-straight match.

• SOCCER: The Hawkeyes lost 2-1 to Nebraska in Lincoln, Neb.

Iowa fell to 12-6-1 overall and 7-5-1 in the Big Ten.

Cloe Lacasse scored her 11th goal of the season and her fourth in as many games to give Iowa the 1-0 advantage in the sixth minute. But the Cornhuskers answered with goals in the 35th and 75th minutes.

The Hawkeyes were out-shot by the Huskers 15-8, including an 8-3 margin in the second half. Junior Hannah Clark made five saves in the defeat.

• MEN’S SWIMMING: The 23rd-ranked Hawkeyes lost to No. 19 Minnesota 163-137 in Minneapolis, despite winning eight of 14 events.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Grant Betulius, Roman Trussov, Jerzy Twarowski and Jackson Allen won in a season-best time of 1:29.46.

Twarowski also won the 200 medley relay (1:29.46), 200 butterfly (1:47.55) and 100 butterfly (48.65). Betulius also won the 100 backstroke in a season-best time of 48.18.

Trussov won the 200 medley relay (1:29.46) 100 breaststroke (55.56) and 200 breaststroke (2:00.81).

The Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan, native placed third as a member of the 400 freestyle relay quartet alongside Brandon Farnum, Charles Holliday, and RJ Hemmingson. The quartet posted a time of 3:05.14. Jackson Allen also won the 100 freestyle in 45.50.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING: The Hawkeyes lost to Minnesota 195-105 in Minneapolis.

The 200 medley relay team of Meghan Lavelle, Emma Sougstad, Tereysa Lehnertz, and Olivia Kabacinski won in 1:43.13 for Iowa. Sougstad also won the 200 medley relay (1:43.13), 200 breaststroke (2:15.66), 100 breaststroke (1:01.28).

• MEN’S TENNIS: The Hawkeyes competed in the Big Ten Indoor Singles/Doubles Championships at Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis.
