Who the Hawkeyes play, and when. Tyler Davis/The Register
Breathe deep, Iowa football fans, the Tiger Hawk has landed.
The university's iconic sports logo is officially affixed to midfield at Kinnick Stadium two months before the season kicks off. The video evidence arrived Thursday morning courtesy of a live webcast the university is providing of its Kinnick renovation project.
A vocal segment of the Hawkeye fan base has long clamored for the logo to adorn the Kinnick turf, and the university agreed that the time was right with the installation of a new playing surface this summer.
The logo faces north to south between the 45-yard lines and will appear on TV screens facing left to right when Iowa opens its 2017 season Sept. 2 by hosting Wyoming.
The last time Kinnick Stadium had a midfield logo was a black "I" from the 1972 to 1980 season. Fans can watch the webcam feed of the field installation at hawkeyesports.com/swarm17.
