The 2019-20 wrestling season is set to be an exciting one in the state of Iowa.
As such, the Des Moines Register is adding a new element to its wrestling coverage this season — a new podcast, "In The Room."
In The Room will be hosted and produced by Cody Goodwin, the Register's wrestling writer and the nation's reigning wrestling journalist of the year. He will bring you inside the world of wrestling in the state of Iowa, with analysis, in-depth interviews with prominent Iowa wrestling figures, legendary stories from the mat and more on a weekly basis during the season.
The shows will be available on the Register and Hawk Central websites and apps, and will soon be available on Apple Podcasts and Stitcher.
He'll cover Iowa high schools, recruiting, the three Division I programs — Iowa, Iowa State, Northern Iowa — as well as the smaller colleges, plus some international and Olympic-related news from time to time.
We hope you'll come back each week, and we welcome suggestions as to what you might want to hear in future episodes.
This podcast will add to the Registers' extensive wrestling coverage. Already, there's weekly mailbags, in-depth features, breaking news, recruiting updates, coverage of duals and tournaments (both near and far) and so much more.
We encourage you to subscribe to the Register for all of your wrestling coverage if you haven't already. That way you don't miss a word. The college season is already underway. The high-schoolers officially start practice on Nov. 18.
The first few episodes are already in the queue for your listening pleasure.
The first, a more-detailed message from Cody about what he hopes to bring you with the podcast this season:
The second, Cody teams up with HawkCentral columnist Chad Leistikow to recap the Iowa wrestling team's media day from snowy Mount Vernon. They also talk about the Hawkeyes' 2019-20 season, from lineup to schedule and more:
The third, a preview of the Cyclones' 2019-20 season. Cody talks with Iowa State coach Kevin Dresser about his third year and why redshirt freshman David Carr, a Junior men's freestyle world champ this summer, will help elevate the Cyclones:
And, most recently, Cody recaps the first weekend of competition — Iowa's preseason matches, and both Iowa State and Northern Iowa's results from the Cyclone Open — and also talks with Jaydin Eierman, who announced he would be transferring from Missouri to Iowa last week:
We hope you enjoy the podcast, as well as the rest of the Register's wrestling coverage. Thank you for listening, and for reading.
