Scott Rathke may not be a household name among Hawkeye fans, but the former Iowa football fullback's story aired during ESPN's College GameDay on Saturday.

Rathke joined the Navy following his time in Iowa City. He eventually become a member of the Navy SEALs.

ESPN's College GameDay profiled the former Hawkeye before the Cy-Hawk game, sharing his journey and explaining how the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, influenced his decision.

"We had just gotten done with position drills and the running back coach, he brought us in, and was like, 'Hey, I want you guys to look up for a second,'" Rahke explained. "We did, and I saw in the sky Air Force one.

Air Force One was escorting then-president George W. Bush from Omaha, Nebraska, to Washington D.C.

"I could see the jet stream and it was just a powerful moment for me," Rathke said. "It brought chills to my body.

"By that event happening, it forever changed my course and my life. This is my calling that I want to be a part of."
