Iowa State may have gotten the better of in-state rival Iowa when the two teams met on Dec. 9, 2021, at Hilton Coliseum, but a lot can change in two months.

The Cyclones have lost four games in a row and currently stand at 3-9 in Big 12 play, while the Hawkeyes have won each of their last three games and 10 of their previous 14 since losing the Cy-Hawk battle.

Iowa and Iowa State are still in position for the postseason with less than a month before the NCAA Tournament bracket is revealed on March 13, but both teams have plenty of room to improve their resumes.

The reeling Cyclones will need to stop the bleeding and pick up more Big 12 victories. Iowa's record is strong, but the team is still searching for signature wins.

Here's what the experts say about the NCAA Tournament fates for Iowa and Iowa State with a month before Selection Sunday.

Iowa basketball NCAA Tournament resume, bracketology predictions

Record: 17-7 overall, 7-6 in Big Ten play

NET ranking: 19

KenPom ranking: 17

USA Today bracketology: 10-seed in the South Region vs. 7-seed Connecticut

CBS bracketology: 10-seed in the East Region vs. 7-seed Arkansas

ESPN bracketology: 7-seed in the Midwest Region vs. 10-seed Wake Forest

The Hawkeyes went 2-0 in the last week, featuring a road win over Maryland and a home win over Nebraska. Neither game fits the requirements to be a Quadrant 1 win, and Nebraska's efforts this year have landed that win in the dreaded Quadrant 4 category since the game was at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Iowa has a chance to make a bigger impact in the bracketology world this week, however; the Hawkeyes host Michigan on Thursday and play Ohio State on Saturday in a rescheduled game.

Wins over Michigan (No. 35 in NET) or Ohio State (No. 17 in NET) would count as the best win on Iowa's resume. A home win over Michigan would fall in Quadrant 2, and a road win at Ohio State would give the Hawkeyes their first Quadrant 1 victory of the season.

Record: 16-9 overall, 3-9 in Big 12 play

NET ranking: 43

USA Today bracketology: 9-seed in the East Region vs. 8-seed Colorado State

CBS bracketology: 9-seed in the East Region vs. 8-seed Notre Dame

ESPN bracketology: 11-seed in the South Region vs. 11-seed BYU (First Four)

The Cyclones' resume is a bit more complicated than their in-state rival. As of Feb. 14, Iowa State has seven Quadrant 1 wins; only six other teams in the country have seven or more such victories. However, a 3-9 conference record, which includes losses in winnable home games to Kansas State and TCU, has hurt the Cyclones' metrics.

Iowa State has two big games coming up this week. Tuesday's game at TCU (No. 54 in NET) would be a Quadrant 1 win. On Saturday, the Cyclones host Oklahoma (No. 36 in NET) which would likely fall in the Quadrant 2 category.
