Cornerback signs with Iowa State, enrolls early
AMES, Ia. — Richard Bowens III is getting a head start on his college football career at Iowa State.
Bowens signed his letter of intent to play for Iowa State and will be an early enrollee freshman at Iowa State. He’s beginning classes at Iowa State for the spring semester, which began Monday.
“He knows how to win and be successful,” Iowa State coach Matt Campbell said in a statement. "We are excited to get him in at mid-year and get him some quality reps.”
Bowens is a 6-foot-1, 175-pound defensive back from West Bloomfield, Mich. He’s listed as a three-star recruit by Scout, ESPN, 247Sports, and Rivals.

The new Cyclone is also rated a top-50 cornerback, nationally, by both Scout (No. 46) and Rivals (No. 49). Bowens tallied 35 tackles and five interceptions as a senior. He also averaged 28.4 yards on nine kickoff returns. Bowens even returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown.
He was a part of three-straight state title teams at St. Mary’s High School. He showcased that speed on the track, where he won back-to-back state championships in the 300-meter hurdles. Bowens owns the state mark with a time of 37.46.

“Richard is a winner,” Campbell said. “His team won the state championship and he is a state champion 300-meter hurdler. He’s got great speed and length at the corner position.”
