AMES, Ia. — Iowa State receiver Deshaunte Jones played quarterback back in his high school days at Colerain High in Cincinnati, Ohio.
And his arm still looked pretty good on Saturday.
After hauling on a lateral screen pass from Brock Purdy, Jones lofted a perfectly-placed 51-yard touchdown pass to a wide-open La'Michael Pettway, who was sprinting unguarded down Iowa's sideline.
The score gave Iowa State a 7-3 lead over Iowa with just under six minutes left in the first quarter. It also rejuvenated a Jack Trice Stadium crowd that needed some juice after a 49-minute weather delay.
