2019 Cy-Hawk football game will have a mid-afternoon starting time
The annual Cy-Hawk football game won’t be prime time this season, but at least it’s locked into what most fans consider to be a favorable time slot.
The Sept. 14 game at Iowa State’s Jack Trice Stadium will start at 3 p.m., and will be televised on FS1, according to starting times announced by the Big 12 Conference on Thursday.
Iowa has won the past four in the rivalry, including 13-3 last season at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City. The Cyclones haven’t beat the Hawkeyes since 20-17 in Iowa City on Sept. 13, 2014 — the game in which Cole Netten won for Iowa State with a late 42-yard field goal.

Both teams have been mentioned in pre-season Top 25s. There’s also speculation that, if both enter the game as rated teams, that the game could be an ESPN College GameDay possibility.
Iowa State opens the season against Northern Iowa on Aug. 31 at a starting time still to be determined, then has a bye week. Iowa starts the season on Aug. 31 against Miami of Ohio, then opens the Big Ten season a week later at home against Rutgers.
