The Iowa soccer team defeated Ohio State 2-1 Friday in Columbus, Ohio. With the victory, the Hawkeyes (12-4-1 overall, 7-3-1 in the Big Ten) are winners of seven conference matches for the first time in school history.
Cloe Lacasse entered the score sheet in the fifth minute, scoring off an assist by Corey Burns to stake out a 1-0 advantage for Iowa. In the 80th minute, Melanie Pickert scored unassisted. Ohio State (5-9-3, 2-6-3) scored in the 86th minute, but could not complete the comeback attempt.
Iowa outshot the Buckeyes 11-9. Coach Dave DiIanni’s club now is 11-2 when scoring first this season.
“We had a great start to the game tonight, playing on the road and with so much at stake for both teams,” DiIanni said. “Our first 20 minutes was a reflection of what we’ve been accustom to seeing lately from our kids. A very focused, hard working group that moved the ball with purpose and displayed quickness off it in support.”
• WOMEN’S TENNIS: Iowa won nine of its 11 matches at the Drake Jamboree in Des Moines. Katie Zordani, Anastasia Reimchen, Montana Crawford and Aimee Tarun won singles matches for the Hawkeyes. Play resumes at 9 a.m. today.
