Tyler Peyton roughed up as Iowa baseball falls to 0-4

Register staff report

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — Tyler Peyton took a step backward in his second start of the young season, and the Iowa baseball team has yet to take a step in the winning direction.

Friday’s 11-3 loss to Indiana State in the Hawkeyes’ opening game of the Snowbird Baseball Classic dropped Iowa to 0-4 and Peyton to 0-2 in as many starts.

The senior took a hard-luck loss in the season-opener at Dallas Baptist — he didn’t give up an earned run. On Friday, he was chased after three-plus innings and five runs allowed.

The offense isn’t helping matters yet; the Hawkeyes haven’t scored more than three runs in any game. Iowa stranded 14 runners on Friday and let Indiana State starter Austin Conway survive six walks in four innings of work.

Tony Rosselli did the most damage for the Sycamores (4-1), going 3-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs scored.

Mason McCoy had three hits for Iowa, and Joel Booker and Nick Roscetti had two hits apiece.

Iowa faces Dartmouth at 10 a.m. Saturday.
