Iowa baseball player Zach Daniels was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Daniels went 4-for-7 in two starts at second base last week for the Hawkeyes. The Robins, Iowa, native collected five RBIs and scored three runs. Daniels also threw one inning on the mound, striking out two. On the season, Daniels is hitting .400 with six RBIs and has a 1.93 ERA in 4 2/3 innings. He is the first Hawkeye to garner Freshman of the Week honors since 2012.
Iowa is 6-8 and returns to action at 3 p.m. Friday against Missouri State in Springfield, Mo.
