Iowa baseball falls at No. 19 Missouri State

Register staff report

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Iowa baseball team dropped a 4-1 decision Friday at No. 19 Missouri State.

The Hawkeyes (6-9) and Bears (15-2) scored one run apiece in the first inning, but that would be the only run support Iowa would get the rest of the way.

Missouri State scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth when Justin Paulsen drove a two RBI single into right field. In the sixth inning, Matt Fultz scored on a wild pitch from Hawkeye starting pitcher C.J. Eldred.

Iowa tallied eight hits on the day, led by short stop Nick Roscetti's 2-for-4 showing at the plate. The senior also stole on base. Austin Guzzo was credited with the RBI for Iowa in the top of the first on a fielder’s choice.

Eldred suffered the loss for the Hawkeyes, lowering his record to 1-2 on the year. The sophomore right-hander gave up all four runs (all earned) and walked six batters.

Iowa and Missouri State will play at 2:05 p.m. Saturday.
