After hitting .438 in helping the Hawkeyes to a 3-1 record, Iowa shortstop Mason McCoy has been named the Big Ten player of the week, the league announced Monday.

Iowa's Mason McCoy runs in a score during the Hawkeyes' game against Loras College at Duane Banks Field on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017.

McCoy went 7-for-16 and hit safely in all four games, including three multi-hit contests. The Iowa senior also scored six runs and racked up six RBIs, as the Hawkeyes upended Loras College last Wednesday and then went 2-1 at the Hoover Classic in Hoover, Ala.

It’s the second such honor for McCoy, who was named the co-Big Ten player of the week May 24, 2016.

The Hawkeyes return to action Tuesday at home against Cornell College before heading north for the DQ Classic at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. Iowa will face Hawaii (Friday), Oral Roberts (Saturday) and Minnesota (Sunday).
