After picking up two wins in helping Iowa to a 3-1 record, right-hander Zach Daniels has been named the Big Ten pitcher of the week, the league announced Monday.
The Hawkeyes sophomore tossed 5 2/3 scoreless innings in outings against Bradley (Wednesday) and Purdue (Saturday), yielding just three hits and three walks with nine strikeouts.
Daniels first punched out five over two frames in Iowa’s 12-1 win over the Braves. He then came back and was instrumental in the Hawkeyes’ 5-1 comeback win over Purdue, following up Ryan Erickson’s start with 3 2/3 solid innings.
Daniels is now 4-1 with a 4.00 ERA. He’s tied for third on the team with nine appearances.
The Hawkeyes (13-9) return to action on Tuesday against Grand View, then host UNLV for three over the weekend.
