Hawkeye freshman basketball player might take a redshirt
ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Iowa's men's basketball team added three new players to the roster this season, but one of them might not see the floor.
Freshman sharpshooter Brady Ellingson is sidelined with a foot injury. Coach Fran McCaffery said there is a chance that the 6-foot-4 guard from Sussex, Wis., might be redshirted.
"But we're not going there yet," McCaffery said. "I feel terrible for him because he was playing well before he got hurt. He was hurt when he got here, he played for awhile and then he was hurt again."
The other two newcomers -- freshman forward Dominique Uhl and point guard Trey Dickerson, a junior college transfer -- figure to play.
"Dom looks great," McCaffery said. "Trey looks terrific. They are doing what we thought they would do. The older guys have embraced them and tried to help them in every way they can, because they know we need them. They've got a shorter window to figure things out. Before you know it, we're going to be playing games."
