The top returning scorer on the Iowa women's basketball team will be sidelined for the next few months.
Sophomore guard Ally Disterhoft will undergo surgery to repair a ruptured tendon in her right thumb and wrist area.
Disterhoft suffered the injury in late February but still tied for the team lead and ranked 13th in the Big Ten in scoring this season with 14.8 points per game.
The West High graduate is expected to be out three to four months following the surgery.
A member of the all-Big Ten freshman team last year and a second-team all-conference pick this season, Disterhoft has started 51 games and scored 977 over the past two seasons.
Disterhoft scored in double figures in 29 of 34 games this season and averaged 5.9 rebounds per game.
