The Iowa Hawkeyes are tied for 45th in the women's college basketball preseason USA TODAY Coaches Poll, which was released Thursday morning. They received three votes, along with BYU.
Six Big Ten Conference teams sit above Iowa in the initial rankings. Maryland comes in the highest at No. 5, followed by Ohio State, which is tied with Texas at No. 6. Michigan State is ranked 22nd. Indiana just missed the top 25 and got pegged at No. 27 with 51 votes, second most in the "others receiving votes" category.
Michigan and Northwestern also fell in that category. The Wolverines got slotted at No. 33, their 10 votes tying them with Creighton and Western Kentucky. The Wildcats sit at No. 37, and their seven votes tie them with Oklahoma State and Wisconsin-Green Bay.

Two of Iowa's nonconference opponents got ranked in the top 10. Notre Dame, which Iowa will host in the Big Ten/ACC challenge Nov. 30, is No. 2. UCLA, which Iowa will play Nov. 24 in the Cancun Challenge, is No. 9.
Iowa might also host South Dakota State on Nov. 20 in the championship game of the Hawkeye Challenge. The Jackrabbits came in at No. 28 with 38 votes.
The preseason Associated Press top 25 will be released Tuesday.
Conference coaches and media members picked Maryland and Ohio State to finish 1-2 in the preseason Big Ten top three, which was released Monday. The media slotted Indiana at No. 3 in its rankings, while the Hoosiers tied with Michigan State for third in the coaches' rankings.
Iowa hosts an exhibition against Lewis University Nov. 6 at 2 p.m., and it opens the regular season at home against Oral Roberts Nov. 11 at 6 p.m.
