Iowa women breeze by Lewis, 61-35, in exhibition

IOWA CITY, Ia. — Ally Disterhoft and Megan Gustafson combined for 31 points on 15-of-17 shooting, and the Iowa Hawkeyes handled Division II's Lewis University 61-35 in an exhibition Sunday afternoon.
How the game was won: Tania Davis conducted the fastbreak offense to near perfection in the final two minutes of the third quarter. She first found Ally Disterhoft for a corner 3 (Iowa's first of the game) to go up 35-22. She connected again with Disterhoft on the next possession for a transition layup, and she pegged Makenzie Meyer for another corner 3 with 22 seconds left in the quarter.
By then, Iowa led 40-25 — its largest lead of the game. That gap swelled to 51-28 when Davis drained a 3 of her own with 7:58 left, and the Hawkeyes wound up with a blowout win.
Key stat: While they committed 23 turnovers, the Hawkeyes also forced 17 and turned those into 17 points. Lewis, meanwhile, turned Iowa's turnovers into 10 points.
Up next: Iowa hosts Oral Roberts for its regular season opener next Friday at 6 p.m.
