IOWA CITY, Ia. — The Hawkeyes had to say goodbye to Ally Disterhoft, but they have a new 6-foot guard coming next year in Davenport North's Jinaya Houston. And now they've got another waiting in the wings for 2018.

Edwardsville (Illinois) junior Kate Martin committed to Iowa via Twitter on Monday evening.

"I would like to thank everyone who has coached me throughout the years and my teammates who have helped me develop as a player and thank the coaches who have recruited me," Martin wrote, "but it's time for me to follow my dreams (and) verbally commit to the (University) of Iowa!"

Martin visited Iowa this weekend and picked Iowa over offers from Wisconsin, DePaul, St. Louis and Illinois. She averaged 14 points per game and led Edwardsville to a 30-1 record and a Class 4A runner-up finish this season.

She joins 6-foot-3 forward Monika Czinano, of Watertown, Minn., as Iowa's current Class of 2018.

Julie Fitzpatrick, the partner of Iowa assistant coach Jan Jensen, is Martin's mother's sister.
