IOWA CITY, Ia. — Lisa Bluder’s 2019 class got a huge boost Sunday afternoon.

McKenna Warnock, a 6-foot-1 senior guard, committed to Iowa via Twitter, becoming the Hawkeyes' third 2019 recruit. ESPN ranks Warnock as the No. 86 overall player in the class.

“Deceptively agile perimeter prospect with tweener skills; executes in half-court game, exploits mismatches,” Warnock’s recruiting profile reads, this entry from the Adidas Gauntlet in July. “Knocks down jump shots to the arc, delivers in traffic off the dribble; competes on both ends of the floor, earns results.

“A stock-riser in the class of 2019.”

Warnock hails from Marshall, Wisconsin, and averaged 28.5 points and 12.9 rebounds per game last season. She’s racked up a bevy of accolades, including USA Today 2nd-team Wisconsin (2018), WBCA Division 2 all-state (2018), AP 4th-team all-state (2017) and honorable mention AP all-state (2016).

As expected, her suitors were plenty. Warnock reportedly had a final five of Iowa, Stanford, Arizona, Marquette and Wisconsin, along with interest from numerous others.

Warnock is the Hawkeyes’ third 2019 recruit, joining Mason City’s Megan Meyer and Cincinnati native (Mount Notre Dame) Gabbie Marshall. Iowa also has two in-state 2020 prospects committed: Montezuma’s Shateah Wetering and Crestwood’s Sharon Goodman.

Iowa’s current group carries high expectations this season, but graduation will hit the Hawkeyes hard over the next two years. Gustafson, Hannah Stewart and Tania Davis are all seniors this year. Kathleen Doyle, Makenzie Meyer and Amanda Ollinger will graduate after the 2019-20 season.

Recruiting wins like Warnock will only aid the transition.
