Field hockey team falls at Big Ten tourney
The 15th-ranked Iowa field hockey team lost to No. 10 Northwestern 2-1 in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Iowa is 11-7, while Northwestern is 14-6.
Senior Dani Hemeon put the Hawkeyes on top early with her ninth score on the season at 6:35, coming off a corner opportunity. Stephanie Norlander had the assist.
Iowa’s 1-0 lead didn’t last long. Isabel Flens was quick to respond for the Wildcats, evening the score at 1-1 at the 7:11 mark on the following possession.
With the clock winding down and 28 seconds to go in the first half, Northwestern took the lead when Carolin Troncelliti scored.
The Hawkeyes will need an at-large bid from the NCAA Field Hockey Tournament Selection Committee on Sunday to extend postseason play.
