Iowa senior Alexandra Pecora was named the Big Ten Conference's Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

The Marlton, N.J., native helped the Hawkeye women's field hockey team improve to 5-1 on the season with wins over Monmouth (4-0) and Kent State (2-0) last weekend. The goalkeeper had back-to-back shutouts, having one save against Monmouth and six against Kent State.

This is the second weekly honor that Pecora has received during her career.

No. 19 Iowa hosts Penn State and Ball State this weekend at Grant Field in Iowa City.
