Van Meter defensive end Chris Reames played the waiting game and it paid off in the end.

After receiving an Iowa offer this week, the 6-foot-7 prospect committed to the Hawkeyes on Wednesday night. He also held interest from Minnesota, Iowa State, Nebraska and UCLA, as well as 14 offers from FCS, Group of Five and Ivy League schools.

Van Meter's Sam Thompson and Chris Reames (87) tackle West Lyon's Logan Meyer during their 1A semifinal game at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017.

247Sports and Rivals don't have Reames rated yet, but he'll soon get three stars. At 6-7 and 220 pounds, Reames said Iowa defensive line coach Reese Morgan has often compared him to Anthony Nelson — who was the same size coming out of Waukee in 2015.

Reames is a fast-playing pass rusher who utilizes his length to routinely disrupt plays. Entering Van Meter's Class 1A quarterfinal against West Branch, Reames had 36.5 tackles, six solo tackles for loss and two solo sacks.

He is Iowa's 16th recruit in the 2019 class and its fifth from in state.
