Open champ Zach Johnson to be Iowa's honorary captain Saturday
A pair of No. 10s will get together Saturday at Kinnick Stadium.
Reigning British Open golf champion Zach Johnson will serve as Iowa’s honorary captain for Saturday’s Big Ten football game against Maryland. Johnson is ranked 10th in the World Golf Rankings. The Hawkeyes, 7-0, are ranked No. 10 in this week’s Associated Press poll.
The two-time major champion and Drake graduate, who was born in Iowa City and raised in Cedar Rapids, is an avid Hawkeye fan. Johnson has won 12 times on the PGA Tour, including this year’s British Open at St. Andrews and the 2007 Masters. He is the sixth player ever to win a title at St. Andrews and Augusta National, joining Sam Snead, Jack Nicklaus, Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo and Tiger Woods.
Johnson is fresh off his fourth appearance in the Presidents Cup, helping the United States team win. Johnson had a career-best 10, top 10 finishes in 2015. He also won a career-high $4,801,487.
Johnson will join the Iowa captains for the pregame coin toss. He will also be with the team in the locker room before and after the game.
Saturday’s game kicks off at 2:30 p.m.
