Rose bouquets are placed inside the University of Iowa Stew and LeNore Hansen Football Performance Center on Monday, Dec. 7, 2015. The 4,300 yellow roses were delivered by Hy-Vee as a congratulatory gesture for Iowa's invitation to the Rose Bowl.

The University of Iowa Athletics Ticket Office received requests for nearly 2½ times as many tickets as it has available for the Jan. 1 Rose Bowl Game between Iowa and Stanford.

UI director of ticket operations Pam Finke said Friday that 54,381 tickets, priced at $150 to $185, were requested by Thursday’s 5 p.m. deadline. Iowa is allotted 22,000 tickets to the bowl game based in Pasadena, Calif. The UI was hopeful to know by this weekend whether the Rose Bowl would make any additional tickets available.

Fans who made requests through UI will be notified of their ticket status, but not seat locations, on Monday.

While Pasadena-hungry fans wait to hear their fate, secondary-market prices are off the charts. The cheapest tickets at Stubhub.com as of Friday morning were going for $590 apiece.
