Iowa's Kittle on watch list for award to top tight end

Iowa senior George Kittle was named to the preseason "watch list" for the John Mackey Award given to the nation's best tight end.

Iowa tight end George Kittle, celebrating a touchdown against Purdue last season, is on the Mackey Award watch list.

The native of Oklahoma started six games for the Hawkeyes last season, catching 20 passes for 290 yards and six touchdowns and enters this season as the lone experienced tight end for Iowa.

The winner of the Mackey award will be announced Dec. 7. The award has been given annually since 2000, and former Hawkeye Dallas Clark won it in 2002.
