Iowa junior Sean Welsh has been named to the "watch list" for the Rimington Trophy presented annually to college football's best center, a position Welsh has yet to play for the Hawkeyes.

Welsh, 6-foot-3 and 288 pounds, has started 21 games in his first two seasons at Iowa: 19 at guard and two at tackle. He moved to center this spring while James Daniels was sidelined by injury and will enter summer practices atop the depth chart there.

Sean Welsh wrote about his struggles with depression in a guest column supplied to the media.

Welsh was named honorable mention All-Big Ten by both the league coaches and media last season.

Finalists for the Rimington Trophy will be announced Dec. 5 with the winner being recognized Jan, 14, 2017.
