Iowa wrestling rolls Rutgers on road
The top-ranked Iowa wresting team recorded a 27-9 win over No. 23 Rutgers on Friday in Piscataway, N.J.
The Hawkeyes resumed their regular-season schedule after collecting four individual titles and an overall team win at the Midlands Championships earlier in the week.
Fourth-ranked Thomas Gilman used 12 takedowns to earn a 25-10 technical fall of Scarlet Knights sophomore Sean McCabe at 125 pounds.
Sammy Brooks delivered the lone pin of the night at 184 pounds, and Brandon Sorenson (149) and Nick Moore (165) earned major decisions.
Upsets came at 141 and 157 pounds, as Rutgers’ Anthony Ashnault beat Josh Dziewa 3-1 and Iowa’s Mike Kelly shut out Anthony Perrotti 4-0.
Iowa will return to action at 1 p.m. Sunday against seventh-ranked Ohio State.
