Iowa has already made a splash recruiting the nation’s top lightweight prep wrestlers.

The Class of 2017 caught another wave on Wednesday with a commitment from Washington, Ill., senior Jacob Warner. FloWrestling ranked the reigning Cadet world bronze medalist as the No. 8 overall prospect for 2017 and No. 1 at 195 pounds.

Iowa assistant coach Ryan Morningstar and head coach Tom Brands watch Brody Grothus wrestle Minnesota's Tommy Thorn at 141 pounds at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Friday, Jan. 29, 2016. Grothus lost by decision, 6-4.

Warner won Illinois state titles as a sophomore (170) and junior (182) and likely projects at 197 for the Hawkeyes.

The announcement came on a busy afternoon as National Signing Day opened up the week-long early signing period for prospective student-athletes.

Warner was also considering offers from Ohio State, Purdue, Minnesota and Arizona State.
