Purdue women's basketball succumbs to first-half run at No. 12 Iowa
IOWA CITY, Iowa - Purdue women's basketball's attempt at a three-game winning streak to close out 2022 hit a snag at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
The Boilermakers (10-3, 1-2 Big Ten) succumbed to a 10-2 Iowa run to end the first quarter, falling to the 12th-ranked Hawkeyes 83-68.
Purdue had an early lead before Iowa went on a run to close the first period.
The Hawkeyes (11-3, 3-0) built a 44-23 halftime lead and despite a Purdue second-half comeback attempt, the Boilers couldn't overcome the large deficit.
Iowa got 24 points from Caitlin Clark, 19 points and nine rebounds from McKenna Warnock and a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds courtesy of Hannah Stuelke.
Lasha Petree led Purdue with 22 points, while Cassidy Hardin and Caitlyn Harper added 10 apiece. Jayla Smith scored nine, while Madison Layden returned after missing two games to score eight. Jeanae Terry provided eight rebounds and seven assists.
The Boilermakers return to Mackey Arena on Jan. 1 when they host Wisconsin at 1 p.m.
