Zach Johnson: C.J. Beathard can 'part the sea' for Hawkeyes

Zach Johnson is a well-documented man of faith. And he's placing a lot of his personal trust in C.J. Beathard for this fall.

The native Iowan and two-time major golf champion is a big Hawkeyes football fan, and he feels confident that the senior quarterback will lead the defending Big Ten West champions to green pastures in 2016.

Zach Johnson has full confidence in Iowa quarterback C.J. Beathard to lead another successful Iowa Hawkeyes football season.

"He will 'part the sea'," Johnson said of Beathard in response to a question posed on Twitter as part of a pre-U.S. Open Q&A with the PGA Tour.

"Moses," as you likely recall, led the Hawkeyes to their first unbeaten regular season and a Rose Bowl berth last fall. A favorable schedule could mean another chance at double-digit victories this season.

The reigning British Open winner, on the other hand, has been mired in neutral much of the past three months. His last top-15 finish came at Bay Hill in March, and he's never placed higher than 30th at a U.S. Open.

Of course, he's got a lot of personal leeway if he wants it. That whole Claret Jug thing helps.

He said he'd be content shooting a score of 2- to 5-over at Oakmont Country Club outside of Pittsburgh. He's paired with defending U.S. Open winner Jordan Spieth and previous NCAA champion Bryson DeChambeau for Thursday's and Friday's opening two rounds.

Take a look at some more of his responses below.
