Duane Banks Field, Merchants Park to host 2021 Iowa state baseball tournament
The 2021 Iowa state baseball tournament has a location.
University of Iowa's Duane Banks Field will host the Class 3A and Class 4A tournaments July 28-31, and Merchants Park in Carroll will host the Class 2A and Class 1A tournaments July 26-29. This will be the first time since 2004 the state baseball tournament is played at two different sites.
The Iowa High School Athletic Association needed to find a new location for its baseball tournament this year because Principal Park, which has hosted the event since 2005, had minor league baseball schedule conflicts this year. The IHSAA has not yet decided where state baseball tournaments will be held after this year.
"The last 15 months have been filled with changes and constantly-evolving plans, and this tournament is no exception," IHSAA executive director Tom Keating said in a press release announcing the tournament locations. "We’re excited to have two high-quality hosts in Carroll and the University of Iowa where our student-athletes can make memories and compete for state championships."
Duane Banks Field is on the campus of University of Iowa and is the Hawkeye baseball team's home stadium. There are more than 1,200 permanent seats in Carrol's Merchants Park, which was renovated in 2011.
