Bowl projections: Penn State holds College Football Playoff spot with Ohio State on heels
Sometimes, there isn't a need to change anything.
The College Football Playoff field in this week's bowl projections is the same quartet as the previous edition. Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and Penn State held their spots with impressive performances during the weekend.
Things may get shaken up after this week. The Nittany Lions host Ohio State in what likely will be the decisive matchup in the Big Ten East race. The winner will hold the critical tiebreaker between the teams, though both must still navigate difficult schedules.
The possibility of two SEC teams grows stronger each week as both the Pac-12 and Big 12 appear to lack an elite team. The parity in those conferences make it possible the champion emerges with more than one blemish, giving the committee the same decision it wrestled with last year - a one-loss SEC team weighed against a two-loss champion of a lesser league.

One potential upset the entire process is Notre Dame. The 4-0 Irish face Stanford in what is the toughest game left on their schedule. If they run the table, they likely will have a seat in December.
A reminder: Some conferences may not fulfill their bowl allotment. Asterisks denote a replacement pick.
